Use for chainsaw chippings?

We buck our firewood logs in the shed and as a result have managed to accumulate several one tonne bags of chainsaw chippings. In the past we've treated paths with the material but it's piling up faster than we can distribute it. Has anyone experimented with compacting chips into logs? There are machines out there (over £10,000) that do the job but I can't justify that.

for pretty much any machine you can think of, there's some mad feckers on youtube that will have made their own, with varying degrees of quality/success.
