Poor lights on Tucson

We bought a 17 Tucson recently.

The dip lights are extremely poor, it’s almost impossible to see in front of you without full headlights. Is this normal for this car? Can the lights be improved?

I would check the lights alignment first.

Go to any garage, shouldn't cost more than 25 euro iirc.

Check for obvious signs like clouded reflectors etc, but for such a new car that would be unusual.

Are these led, xenons or just normal halogens?

I don’t know what kind of lights they are. I find it hard to believe that there should be a problem when it’s so new and it was bought from Charles Hurst so I thought that was a reputable dealer. I was thinking it might be a generic fault they all have? It’s a death trap at night on country roads!

Try upgrading the dipped bulbs to something like Osram Nightbreakers.

any chance you are driving with just dims or drl's on? might sound sllly, but have a quick check of the manual, and flick through the lights in your driveway so you are sure?

Also worth checking for faulty bulbs if they are LED, rented a Prius with similar problem, new bulb fixed it

Thanks for the advice, did that on day one and had someone stand watching the lights

Are the lights dipped down? Should be set to “0” height

    Tried that too!

If they halogen lights they are terrible... Try the orsram nightbreakers or Philips Xtreme vision.. you'll change bulbs more every 8 months but it's as close to led lights you'll get..

We have the i35 2015 model and lights are horrific. Can hardly see when dipped.

I had one of those for a while (might have been 2016) and the lights were OK. Had standard halogen bulbs.

I'd be confident that yours can be improved by alignment and possibly new bulbs.

I would still look into alignment first, before spending money on bulbs.

You can even roughly check it yourself when parked against a wall, but again it isn't that expensive to rule it out in the garage to be sure.

I've the same problem with a 2016 Nissan Leaf. The oem halogen bulbs were hopeless so I upgraded them to night breakers and while it improved the light they are still quite poor. It must be a poor design issue as I am always amazed at how much better the lights are on my 08 smax which are also halogen nightbreakers

Dipped bulbs on the i40 are awful too. Must be a hyundai thing.

Is it poor light output or are they down on the ground?

Have to say that in decades of driving I never had to do this.
Car gets washed once a month, maybe.

That said I'm driving mainly in the city. Might be different in the countryside.

Agreed. It was a common complaint on the 2nd gen i30, people couldn't see far enough so they had to make adjustments.

New bulbs would make a big difference too. The ones in my mam's i30 were very dull and fairly yellow compared to other cars I've driven. You don't even need those high end Osram bulbs to make a difference, any decent quality bulb should so the job.

i always find cold dry weather and salted roads the worst, used to have to do it all the time clean the lights halfway along a journey.

dont do it as often now maybe the aero an modern cars is better - dont drive as much either :)
