As title, how does the VRT work on a damaged car. I want to bring in a damaged car from UK, repair it and use as my own vehicle. How is the VRT worked out?

Same as a normal one, you have to pay within a month so make sure your repairs are fast.

Engineers report isn't it and give all details into them.

depends if it's driving or not. If it isn't then you can't VRT it until it is. I assume you'll be charged penalties back to the date of importation if late paying.

If there's damage when you drive it to your appointment there may be a small discount of the vrt amount - the vrt staff can decide if the condition is bad, but this is up to the individual vrt staff. It has to be able to drive to be registered.

If you don't pay within the 30 day timeframe penalties will be applied like any other vehicle.

I imported a cat d a few years ago. Light damage, bumper, bonnet, wing and headlight. All bolt on parts, no airbags. Repaired most of it myself, just gave it to a garage to paint it.

I had to pay the full whack of VRT initially and then submit an appeal with all the evidence. Can't remember what I got back but it was in the region of 40 to 50 percent.

Evidence included pictures of damage, screenshots of similar cars priced less than they valued my one and of course the sob story of how the car probably has no resale value.

There is a 5% discount for damage. Did you really get that much back?
