Cryptic crosswords

I've got some time off work and have decided to to finally give cryptics a proper go. Just a few days in. Any advice? People say "get to know the setter".. Which would you advise that is online and good for a beginner? I've been using an app called Learn Cryptic Crosswords and watching some Cracking The Cryptic on Youtube.…

Got maybe the first I'm happy with from the Guardian's Quiptic..

In agreement for a French crash diet (6)
French = Un | crash means to anagram "diet" => United

The 'original' (Derek Crozier) Irish Times Crosaire clues were fun once you got into them. I'm not at all a fan of any of his successors, I'm afraid. The above clue reminds me of Crosaire
