I thought I would share my experience with Vodafone since being with them for a week.

I have had nothing but problems with the WiFi since installation a week ago and now trying to get in contact with Vodafone since has been a pain.

My issue was with the WiFi, I would be watching TV and the quality would drop so bad you couldn't make out the picture on the screen then the video would just buffer and not stop until router was reset but the issue would return shortly after, I did a speed test when this was happening and I'm getting as low as 1Mbps while going on the ethernet connect PC getting 900+Mbps.

Finally getting through to tech support and without giving any information to confirm I'm the account holder the operator proceeded to enter my router settings and modify by splitting the SSID and advised to connect different devices to different networks. Now all devices are on the 5Ghz WiFi and still only get 250Mbps max.
Considering I have been with Virgin for the last 3 years and have been able to get 360+Mbps on all devices anywhere in the house. I have had more problems with the WiFi in the short time I have been with Vodafone in all the years I have been with Virgin.

I understand anything over 250Mbps is kinda over kill in a residential property and there are other variables to consider that determine speeds, but after reading other reviews from over a year ago and it seems like Vodafone have no interest in resolving issues with their hardware.

With the options given by support and the kind of communication I have had with Vodafone I'm seriously considering moving back to Virgin (and that's saying alot as their customer service is bad if not worse)

Hope this helps anyone considering the move.

    Gigabox

I've discovered their IP lease is 24 hours is which is a massive pain in the hole, and the gigabox doesn't allow devices to use their own DNS routings, so I have to set the whole router to smart DNS, with reductions in latency/speed associated. Debating getting an actual router as with switching providers every year the last 3-4 years I've come to the conclusion that playing guesswork with their ****ty crippled routers just isn't worth it and most of them support bridge mode nowadays anyway.

For your own sanity you may be better biting the bullet and getting a good mesh system and bridge, or at least disable dhcp etc on the gigabox.

FTTH users should definitely just replace the router

    *Assuming no VoIP
*Assuming TV won't be a problem

Any recommendations for a reasonable mu-mimo one? Not interested in creating a mesh setup, just needs to run two Xboxes and allow one of them to do its own DNS with a fairly foolproof interface. Last time I was looking at this was about 10 years ago. I assume WiFi 6 isn't worth investing in.

Yeah I'm think the same thing, I really don't like the routers that they send out. The only one I know is any good is the ASUS ROG Rapture GT-AC5300 but it's like €500 and a little over kill for my needs.

Quick Google found this if it helps anyone.

I’ve just got the Gigabox also. Have to say disappointed in the Wi-Fi range compared to the previous Eir F2000 (and that wasn’t good)

Can anyone confirm if The Orbi or TP-Link Mesh systems will work with the gigabox and if so what are settings for gigabox please? I can’t replace the gigabox entirely as I have and need VOIP sadly.

If using the Gigabox with a mesh, so all Ethernet ports in the Gigabox become unusable also?

    Thanks a lot

    Declan
