Hey guys, woke up this morning it was -4 degrees and started my car only to get a warning on the dash saying start stop unavailable. Does this sound like my battery hasn't got enough charge for it and I may need a new one or is it the fact it's really cold out right now. Currently letting the car warm up and defrost for a bit to see if that helps hopefully when engine gets up to temp.

Another thing that happened was my headlight washer jets were stuck out, most likely because I didn't have anti freeze in it and the water has froze....silly me. They should pop back in when it warms up according to the research I've done.

The start stop happened mine a few years ago and the EGR was knackered. Best top get it scanned.

Mine was underpowered when EGR failed. It was also due to software upgrade re nox gases.

I advise getting it scanned to see what it is.

I think non activation of stop /start function will kick in for various kind of faults.

Car now has almost 300k kms (2011 first of C7)

Yeah I don't have VCDS so I may wait for a bit I'd assume it's safe to drive right? Just don't use stop start. The button above the climate controls deactivates it doesn't it?

Also is there a VCDS that I can use through bluetooth on my phone? Where would I be able to purchase one of them?

Sorry I can't help you with this as I'm not a mechanic.....

Maybe someone else will come on later that can offer advise.

The most common reason for stop start not to work is the charging system or battery. Cold weather plays havoc on batteries. Don’t panic too much at this stage.

Yeah I'm going to take it for a drive later and hopefully it will clear the fault when it's up to temp

So just checked car is back to normal now my washer jets popped back in lol screenwash was frozen solid.

Stop start fault is gone now once the car got up to operating temperature, I guess it was the frost and freezing weather last night that played havoc on everything.

Start stop requires quite a few things to be within certain parameters to work, battery voltage , engine temp , ambient temp etc so i wouldn't be too worried on a very cold morning if it didn't work.

As for the washer jets popping up when frozen, get some decent washer fluid with anti - freeze in it to stop this as i've had a few cars where the hose to the jets split from freezing.

Out of curiosity what age is the car.
I know with bmws with stop start, when it stops working its normally the battery.
The batterys seem to last 5 years when they need changing because of this.
And would normslly last another few years in a different car
