New Range Cooker. Solid fuel or oil? What are the pros and cons?

I need to replace my old Stanley 50 range. It's a solid fuel cooker. It was in the house when I bought it & I never got the hang of using the oven. Any stove-top dishes I cook are done on the stovetop. My kitchen is big & it was great for heating the kitchen, but only barely warmed the rads in the rest of the house.
Seeing as I'm changing it, can anybody recommend a decent replacement. I would love an oil burning cooker -for the speed & lack of messy ash etc, but potential oil-price rises scare me. I intent to keep my small electric cooker as backup. Any thoughts?

It's the bally ballyness of it that makes it all seem so bally bally.
