How to activate 5ghz in Virgin Wifi router?

I'm looking at the router settings page 192.168.0.1, and it says 2.4ghz and 5ghz are enabled.

But I only have one network available to connect to, on all my devices. I've been to other people's houses where you get a choice of 2.4 or 5.

So what's going on here? Any way to enable the choice?

They're both the same SSID, clients that support both will connect on both as appropriate. 2.4 only will only see 2.4.

I think you can split them on the Hub3, not sure about the rest.

Which one is best to connect to? I've read that 2.4 is good if you're far away from the router as it travels through walls easier. If you're in the same room you should go for 5ghz as it is faster. Or something like that. Is that correct?

    Mostly correct.

If you live an apartment complex or any dense dwellings 2.4 is about as useful as a horse and cart.

The Virgin Hub 3 you can create separate SSID for 2.4 and 5.0 both will broadcast same time and all devices will be on same network.

Just give different name to each SSID

5.0 set to 20/40/80 if your wifi devices you have are AC wifi

Using only one SSID can be useful if you are in part of house that has weak signal and it connects auto between 2.4 or 5.0 but sometimes a device might not switch back to faster 5.0 wifi when you move back to area in house that has good signal for 5.0 and remain connected to 2.4 instead.

I always use separate SSID and decide if device is going to connect to 5.0 or 2.4 and will remain connected to choice made.
