I understand there is an issue about the redevelopment going ahead, but why did Antrim county board allow it to decline as badly? Why didn’t they at least maintain the pitch and keep playing a few games there?

From what I've been told it's because the stadium needed some modernization work done in relation to turnstiles and such in order to get insurance for a good sized crowd. Because very little, maybe none, of the structure would be retained during the redevelopment process it was decided that spending the money required on keeping Casement open for a few more months, which was at least the plan at the time, wasn't a good use of resources. Of course once a place closes and starts getting run down the cost to open it back up gets higher and higher.
