The last smartphone I bought for myself was an iPhone 3gs in 2009. Ever since I’ve used hand-me-up phones from siblings as they upgraded. Dont use the smartphone or internet features much because I prefer to use a more specialised device at home and work next door be that desktop PC, Laptop, iPad, Media Server and KODI boxes Etc so have never delved deep into Android or configuring a phone.

My latest hand-me-up a Samsung Note 4 died the other day and I bought myself a Samsung A10. Very, very happy with it and it even Perfectly fits my Note 4 Leather Wallet with holder.

What I used to do on the very rare occasions I needed to use cellular data away from the Home/Work WIFI network was turn it on and accept the 99c per day data charge. The problem was that I’d nearly always forget to turn cellular data back off and only realise a week or so later when I’d find my 10 or 15 euro credit all eaten up by daily 99c data charges.

Because I dont have much experieince with data tariffs or the ins and outs of Android phones for the reasons I have explained above, I am wondering if its possible to set the phone to always default to WIFI when it detects my Home/Work WIFI and to tell apps to only update when connected to WIFI. If thats possible then I think even Vodafones 1GB 28day €5 Data Topup would cover any and all ‘Away from my home/work WIFI network’ needs of mine, and I could leave cellular data enabled on the phone and not worry about my phone credit having 99c per day deducted!!

Put it this way, the phone says I used a gig Over WIFI In the last few days but thats only Because it was transferring all my data and apps from my Note 4’s Cloud backup. (Which I wasnt expecting but was thrilled to discover) I’ll Never go over a gig of cellular data when I’m just googling something or whats-apping or Google mapping away from home. All bandwidth heavy applications like media consumption And even internet browsing, I always prefer to do on other Bigger screened devices anyway and would be very Unlikely to do on the phone especially away from my home/work WIFI network.

I groan when I read a long question/post by someone and say to myself, "Google is your friend dumbass!!"

    Guilty as charged!

    I am a dumbass!!

Google Play Store left slide out menu->Settings->App Download Preference->'Over WIFI only'.

At least I have the common sense to post the solution for future dumbasses or indeed googlers rather than simply posting, "NVM, found the answer myself'.

So at least I am not a TOTAL Dumbass!! :D:D
