I have a Firebird Enviromax boiler.
Just noticed black "soot" under the condensate trap. It has melted off.
What could be the cause of this? Is it easy fix. Stupid question but is it diy or need plumber to give full service?
    Pics attached for info.

Below is old thread I found on it:

Firebird have now moved away from these thermoplastic traps to full stainless steel traps.

Better get your boiler serviced by an experienced oil technician and have the trap changed.

    Quick update.
Heard today of similar issues with this type of boiler and trap so rang Firebird direct.
In fairness to them, and without question, they have offered to supply a replacement S/S kit and their fitter is even doing it next week.
Said they have not supplied the plastic trap for about 2.5yrs.

Thousand's of Firebirds out there working perfectly with plastic traps, but they have to be serviced regularly like all boilers, was yours.?
Very high risk of dangerous fumes if trap goes.
Their not very forgiving if ignored, hence Firebirds changing trap.
    But they still need servicing.
