Tax relief on spousal maintenance

Hi

Can someone tell me if spousal maintenance is tax deductable at the higher rate of tax?

Currently paying €1,000 per month spousal and paying tax at higher rate.

Yea I've read that. It's by court order so yea. It just dosent clarify if it's at the nominal rate or higher rate

It's at your marginal rate. So you'll get a tax credit at 20% of the amount and also an increase in the standard rate band for the amount of the maintenance which will ultimately give 40% relief if there is a liability at that rate.
