The last time I imported a car from UK was 2008, Ford mondeo 11 months. I need a replacement soon but wondered what has changed. Last time I had a UK address but not now.

I read elsewhere that to get documents you need a UK address, this was in a thread about a Mercedes. I'm interested in a VW is it the same? Will cause me grief as I have looked at prices here and uk and I may save quite a bit with better spec.

No that’s just Mercedes Benz dealers who won’t sell to Irish customers.

Nothing has changed apart from you 100% need to get the v5 from the garage you are buying from. They will give you it but sometimes they need educating on selling a car for permanent export. Before you could import the car with a permanent export slip or something but the DVLA don’t issue those anymore. Read the very first post from the Importing from UK thread, its years old and still applies now. Put a deposit on car, fly over, buy the car and ferry back. Vrt process seems the same as 12 years ago. Just the usual documents. Most people use Revolut or Transferwise to pay for the car which probably differed 12 years ago.
