Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi all,
I'm thinking of getting my 2016 520d remapped
Just wondering has anyone got it done on this car and if so any problems occur afterwards like gearbox problem or anything?

Start looking at 530/535's or just trade it in for a 640d.

If I had the money I would change but sadly I don't.

Generally speaking a remap adds more torque, and of course power which puts more pressure through the drivetrain of the car such as the clutch/flywheel and gearbox..
A 4 year old Diesel car may have as an example, 130,000km so the remap will increase the pressure on well used parts so you may find yourself having to do the clutch pretty quick.
Also make sure you get your mechanic to do a full diagnostic scan of your car to pick up any faults in the system. And also a general service.

On a 520d 'd save the money up for a new timing chain first.

Always enjoyed any diesel I had mapped.
Joe Power is the man to do it.

Think this is him these days

    Gearbox be grand
But yeah chain on those BMW 2.0 is suspect

    It was.

Yours has the newer b47 engine so the timing chain will be fine.

    Joe Power
    or
    Torquetronix

    Would be the main 2.

There's another crowd in ballymena who are pretty highly rated.

You'll be limited on power gains if you want to keep all the emissions stuff.

With regards the drivetrain it'll well able for the boost in torque and power. The autoboxes are well able for it and the manual gearboxes are too although if you've a good lot of miles on the clutch and dmf it'd be wise budget for a replacement in the coming future.

Another +1 for Joe Power. He has remapped a number of cars for me with no issue. You will get a dyno before and after the remap too to show the difference.

I’ve had every diesel car I’ve owned remapped.
    520
    525
    530
    535
    318

    I’ve used Martin In Autoremap
    Joe Power
    Bmw diagnostic in Rathcoole
Westward engineering and AI Autosport for my Jap petrols.

For a standard 20d remap most of the big guys will be fine and you won’t notice my difference between them.
