Passat will be more expensive with less spec for a same year/mileage Octavia.. I've a 2 litre 150 dsg Octavia and it's a very comfortable car. That said the Passat is probably half a class higher than the Octavia.. test drive both and see what you think yourself.. you'll have plenty of people say the octavia is the same as the Passat for less money so it's a no brainer.. i haven't driven a Passat but I've just changed my Octavia for a Tiguan so make of that what you want.

    Passat probably.
    2.0 either way.

Passat is nicer inside particularly in Highline form. After driving both 1.6, 2.0 auto and manual, I’d definitely recommend 2 litre auto but that configuration will be the most expensive.

Thanks guys. Currently have 1.6 diesel.Do you use more fuel with a 2.0L?

If your not happy with the power from the 1.6 you’ll end up trashing it more and use more fuel. 2 litre has 6 speed so should use less fuel on the motorway and be a lot quieter

Insurance and servicing probably slightly more expensive on the 2 litre and purchase price is higher but it should be worth more when you go to sell it and its definitely worth paying a bit extra for. Not many of them around tho in the Octavias or Passats

The Passat is certainly not a bad car when it comes to quality inside just a pity its such a boring car. I was in a 161 Audi A6 today and was very disapointed with the quality of the dash and plastics in it. Some nice chrome and steel in it but my Anty's 151 Passat actually had a much nicer dash and much better as well as more soft touch plastics in it. I would take the Passat as it might be dull but at least its not ugly like the Audi.
The Skoda is a good car too. I would say test drive both and buy the one you are happy with and that has the engine for you.

    Peace and long life.

Octavia is from the segment below the Passat. A Superb would be more a competitor to a Passat.

Plenty of 2.0 litre Passats about not so many Octavias.

First criticism I've ever seen of an Audi interior quality. Pretty much every car journalist thinks Audi does the best interiors, possibly only Mercedes as a genuine rival. Why have a dig at the A6 anyway in a thread about passat and octavia?

This paragraph made me laugh , u cut up an Audi , placed a Passat in front of it and turned around and said a Skoda was a good car !
    Ur quotes
    Passat is boring !
Not as ugly as a Audi !
Skoda is a good car !

Well everyone has an opinion. My friends a4 has pretty much the same interior to my style/sportline octavia only the Octavia has a much nicer head unit...door panels and every else pretty similar..

Would I take his manual a4 2 litre diesel over my dsg 2 litre Octavia? Not a chance..

Vw family of cars are all pretty similar experiences.. test drive and pick what you prefer based on preferences and finance

The biggest reasons for me to go Passat would be that the seats are better, and there are more 2.0s around. The Passat is clearly from the class above when comparing like for like.
Obviously I’d have a high spec Octavia over a basic Passat, and you’ll get more Octavia for your money - but if the OP is flexible on budget then this shouldn’t be a compromise he’ll have to make.

Well believe it or not but there has been others in here who have also criticised Audi interior quality. I was saying it because I had just been in one and it was a huge disapointment. In end they are just a car and they get you from A to B so I say to the poster just pick what you like.

In fairness a well specced Passat from 2015 onwards can be nicer inside than the A6 from that era which was around from 2011... I mean highline with business pack and sports pack. Octavia will feel from a class below so all depends on budget at end of the day. I looked at all 3 and superb and went with Passat 2.0.

As others have said the Passat is more in the Superb class, it's a bigger heavier car.

I've owned Passat estates and Octavia estates, I liked how much extra space was in the Passat's, but they are a heavier car and with a 2l engine will use more fuel.

If you want to spend more money to get a slightly better interior then go up to a Passat, if you want to spend even more money for the interior then go for the Audi A4.

If you want a VW group car that's light, with good fuel millage then go for the Octavia.

But you're buying a 5 year old car so I see the priority would be initial cost and then running costs also and not how the car looks inside or out, if so then the Octavia is the best choice IMO.
