on-street parking at villa

    hi all

we've found a nice villa for holiday but it has no off-street parking, so we'd be parking on street outside the house. Every other time I've had a driveway, so not sure what I make of this. Has anyone done this on holidays and how has it gone for you? Any problems from a car-hire perspective? We're looking at villamoura in Portugal, BTW.

    Thanks in advance,
    D

There won't be a problem with the car hire company, the worst that can happen is that you get a ticket or get towed or clamped and in all cases, they will pay the fine and bill you via your credit card. The only thing that car rental companies don't want you to do is drive in certain adjacent countries, they have no problem with you parking a rented car on public streets.

Look at the area on Google Streetview and see if there's cars parked on the nearest public road.

Thanks coylemj, much appreciated - the villa is in a quiet residential area so that's helpful based on what you have said.

    Tnx

We have hired many cars on holiday and quite a few were on street parking . It was never an issue or indeed we were never asked about it

2 years ago we rented a Villa in Greece (Island) on Airbnb. We had filtered by "Parking on Premises" (among other things) as we usually do. Busy seaside location in July.
When we got there, it was on-street parking only. Our Hire Car was scratched and damaged by another car on the rear bumper while parked on the street near the Villa.
We have an annual Excess Policy and everything was sorted out eventually but still it was hassle.

I'm curious as to how you got into your head that car rental companies might forbid you to park on the public street.

I mean, when you were in your villas in Portugal on previous trips, you had a private driveway to park the rented car overnight but where did you park when you went shopping or to visit local towns? Did you never park on a public street?
