    Hi All.
Looking for recommendations and ideas for a car for the wife. She currently has a 2010 Honda Insight and she really likes it so it has to be an automatic but doesn't have to be a hybrid, would consider petrol only as well but not electric.

She is not into Merc's and Beemers so those type of cars are out and I know we are probably going deep into Prius territory here but would love some other cars that we haven't thought of that might surprise us.

Don't want to restrict you guys anymore only to say the budget would be from 8k up to 15k at a stretch for something nice.

If I haven't given enough info let me know.
    Thanks in advance.

Honda crz probably will have too small a boot for her and I am getting her 2010 Insight while i get rid of my old Avensis, think two Insights might look weird in the drive :)
    Will check out the Lexus.
    thanks for your reply.

What sort of mileage she doing? Is hybrid or diesel better? Pick the fuel and then see what options available

Never thought of checking out the VW range, thanks for that.
Is there any models you would have in mind?

The Auris Sport Touring (estate) hybrid as an alternative to the Prius.

She only does about 9k a year and mostly tipping about, we live in a town, the Insight has been very cheap to run I must say.

That sounds whats she's looking for alright, I would be a fan of Japanese cars over German anyway.
I will look for these, thanks very much.

I have only heard good things about these, a couple of lads in work rave about them. What make and model has given you trouble?

Would most likely need to go to the uk to get a nice example in budget.

Nice cars though and the 1.8 hybrid platform is extremely reliable.

As said above by shefwedfan the ct200h has a small boot.

Even standard Auris hybrid hatchback is worth a look

A Toyota Auris might be a good bet if going for a hybrid, that and the Lexus CT200H share the exact same powertrain I believe. If you want to go for a petrol then a DSG Golf (probably a 2013 model), Seat Leon or Skoda Octavia would be an option.

Thanks for the help so far. Do Hyuandai make any decent auto's or are they best avoided?

They do some DSG style dual clutch jobs, but I think the ones you’d be looking at would be the relatively thirsty old fashioned torque converter type

Unless they’ve put a DSG in their new 1.0 turbo i30

Edit, they have one in their 1.4 turbo, not sure if they’d be within budget, they’re prob too new

None yet as I have never owned one, but that might change in the near future. And if there were problems with them ( or specific model etc) I'd like to have an idea about them, instead of blindly buying one. And they are presently under discussion here on the forum, so no better place to find out.

Generally they only give trouble if you don’t change the DSG oil. A lot of people didn’t even know DSG oil existed so it went un changed and inevitably the gearbox broke. Some of the DSG’s don’t need the oil change, or don’t have oil, one or the other

I would try and stick to hybrid or PHEV in that case. If you have a home and you can install a charger a PHEV might be option and run on electric for part jounrey and fuel the rest

Otherwise hybrid, Toyota and Lexus are main ones available but Hyundai and others do offer them.

I'm surprised a Lexus dealer is selling it too.

On Carzone, can’t link but they have Audi A3 eTron PHEV. It’s a beautiful car

Just above budget at 16,995 but with cash could get

Also a couple of Outlanders knocking around. GX3h so spec is lower but still fairly high if you compare to some models
