I know it's a general question and probably depends on the employer, but is it normal for an employer to cover the fuel costs of a daily commute to and from the office?

    Thanks in advance.

If you have a company car then all costs are usually covered. But from a BIK position, the commute mileage are classed as personal.

So if your only driving to and from the office in the car you would really need to work out the cost of your BIK as all mileage will be classed as personal which would put you in th high taxation bracket.

Depending on the value of the car you could be hit quite severly. For example, if I only did personal mileage in my car I would have a BIK value of approx 1k per month taxed at the higher rate. So approx a €500 charge.

Is there a car allowance you can get? If so work out if its better to take that and get a car on lease yourself.

    Thanks Maxwell smart,

It's a potential temporary contract so won't be going down the leasing route, I'm trying to make a monetary comparison to my current job, which is office based.
