    Hi all,

I had.a 1.50 euro trixie at the weekend on 3 horses. The first horse came second at 25/1. The second lost and the third won at 10/1. So effectively I had a place and qinnon one of my doubles. PP only paid me 27 where I would have thought it would be closer to 100. As 1/5 of 25/1 winner would or should be 5/1 net plus stake on a 10/1 winner.

    Your place double is (1/5 of 25/1) x (1/5 of 10/1) - around 18/1 so €27.00 is exactly right.

Were you expecting the double to be the place part x the full 10/1 for the winner? Doesn't work that way alas

You are not doing the place part right for the second fella. 1/5 or 1/4 of 10/1.

    Assuming 1/5. €9 on at 2/1 =€27 back

    Thanks for explanation.

Alas was hoping the place on the first would be put on the winner.

Ah well. New day new learn.

As a related question - say I had two fancies on a day. One priced at 6/4 and one priced at 20/1.
I want to win back the first horse and each way back the second horse. Is there a way of doubling a win and an each way bet. So bet 1 is a win double, and bet 2 is a double on horse 1 to win and horse 2 to place, but taking the “each way” terms?

Obviously I could manually do this bet by just writing two dockets and taking the standalone place price on horse two and doubling it with a horse 1 win, but often the standalone place price is worse than the equivalent quarter or fifth of the board price, and you also usually don’t get any extra place offers or anything like that.

    just use the 1 docket
    write €5 win double
    & also €5 e/w double

But thats 3 bets, I only want to have 2 win*win and win*place

no such thing as just a win & a place
has to be a win double or an e/w double

You can back a horse just to place on paddy power anyway. So just write horse a to win and horse b to place and that's your double sorted.

As I said in my post, I know I can do that, but you usually get worse pricing and no extra place offers. Nevermind. It’s not a bet I expect to be doing much, if ever. Just wondering.

If you are looking for a win place double you are mad to not also double the win.

what would you do if your placed horse actually wins?

If your dead on doing it you can do these doubles on line and in the shops if place markets are offered. But as I said you are mad not doing the win double anyway.

In the example you gave of 6/4 and 20/1 you would lose around 44 pts if both horses win.

Just because a horse is priced at 6/4 does not mean that he has a better chance of beating a 20/1 shot. Don't mug yourself, the bookies will give you plenty of opportunities.

I did, and in my original and subsequent posts I clearly state that I want two bets, a win/win double, and a win/place double, but with the place piece on horse 2 to be done at the pricing and terms of an each way bet rather than a standalone place. So your lengthy response telling me I would be mad not to do a win/win double as well is irrelevant, as I clearly always wanted that as part of my bet.

So you clearly never properly read mine.

    Good username.

Nice troll, I hope you got a kick out of it. But you clearly did not emphasise or articulate what you wanted to do. But I doubt you really know what you are doing anyways.

Eitherways, the fact that you decide to take the piss out of someone who is trying to help you out speaks volumes.

I don't know if this is the answer you're looking for but perhaps an "any to come" or "if cash" bet might work for you in this instance. There probably is such bets but i'm guessing the bookie doesn't like them and cashiers are generally clueless in this regard.

I'm assuming that for bet two you would want your total return from the 6/4 winner to be split into an each way on the 20/1 shot? So if you done it for 10 euro it would be e12.50 e/w going on the other selection at 20/1?

Maybe go around to the nearest shop to yourself and ask the oldest most knowledgeable behind the counter person who would've been operating when there was no such thing as virtuals, novelty bets etc... They would I presume be up to speed on all types of horseracing bets that are now not as well advertised/ hidden away so the punter can better be mugged.

    According to wiki

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glossary_of_bets_offered_by_UK_bookmakers#'Any_to_Come'_(ATC)_or_'if_cash'_bets

I don't know if the bet you're trying to do is possible but I wouldn't be wagering against the legitimacy of it. :(

    Hope you prevail in this.

Seems like a Swizz from the bookies. Quel suprise.

If I actually do the double myself. I.e. put the winnings from the placed horse and put it each way on the winning horse. I’d be about 3 fold better off than relying on the bookies to do the same job.

Now of course I know the practicalities of just doing a trixie or 3 x doubles but if I was just doing one strong double I’d seriously think about just backing the first horse and then seeing about backing the second.

Would that be a runner for some
Or am I missing something. I’m not exactly an aficionado when it comes to the gee gees and betting. In case you hadn’t noticed. ;-)))

Don’t think so. Apparently if your first horse only places then the second horse even if it wins will only pay out the each way on the accumulative double.

My first horse came 2nd at 25/1 on a 1.5 e/w double. And the second horse won at 10/1 I only got 27

But if I put the winnings from
The first horse which would be 5/1 net at 1.5 that would be 9 euro profit to put on my 10/1 winning horse. Which would be 4.5 e/w giving me I think 63 euro return. Which is nearly 2.5 times what I would have got from a bookies double.

Sorry read it wrong, bookies look at as two different bets, the win bet and the place bet.

Sorry, I’ll do it in bullet points for you next time. It’s there plain and simple in all of my relevant posts, the first of which you have helpfully bolded.

Your version of helping wasn’t actually helping, it was preaching about how I was losing value by not doing a win win double, not answering my question.

As for the not knowing what I’m doing point, I know exactly what I’m doing, it was just a type of bet I’d never placed nor felt the need to place just asked some advice of the generally friendly posters on the forum out of interest as much as anything.

Anyways, we’ve long since strayed into the lovely territory of nobody winning when you argue with a stranger on the internet

Well when someone poses a genuine question as hurleronditch did and the response is another poster coming on and preaching to him and telling him he's mad then it can descend into ****ology fairly quickly.
