Hi lads. The missus has a 2011 ix35 Hyundai. We think the turbo may be blown. Has anyone any idea how much this can cost to repair including labour etc? Thanks

From Hyundai youre probably looking at around 2000 euros plus.

Not sure where youre based but I used to use a lad on the Ashbourne road to rebuild them for me when I was in Hyundai. Turbotech is the name of the place. Id say you could cut that bill in half with a rebuilt one.

You could probably cut it in half and maybe half again if you can source another one.
What would a breaker want for one, €200/300? If you know a mechanic maybe one or two hundred to fit it....I wouldn't bother rebuilding it.

I wouldnt trust a turbo from a scrap yard. Could be as bad as what came out of it.

You are probably looking at somewhere in the region of 800 euros to get a turbo replaced by an independent mechanic which should come with a 12 month warranty.

Don't go down the breakers yard route, you have no idea of the condition of the turbo you are buying..

Try Turbowizz in Monasterboice. I used them a few years back and got a local mechanic to fit a turbo I bought from them.
They'll exchange your old one for a rebuilt one.

Get a scrapper one and trade the car in if you’re going to be getting a new car anyway.

refurb from Turbotech (mentioned above)is a much better route, and the basic unit is not as expensive as you might think.

Don't know the ix35 in terms of the work to remove and refit, and there will be some checks to be done before starting it up again to make sure that there's not another issue that's contributed or caused the failure.

Shore, if it was easy, everybody would be doin it.😁

So the problem was the sensor in the exhaust had gone and also a damaged injector which let oil through and with the sensor not picking up on the bad mix it went unknown until the turbo got damaged. Also a mechanic friend now tells me the big end bearings are shot so.....!

If you can find a new enough model in a breakers id be taking my chances there. Worth a punt.
