Just wondering has anyone ventured into weaving on a rigid heddle. OH got one for me with the 12 dent reed not realising that I’m a knitter, not a weaver and most of my stash comprises of indie dyed sock yarn, silk, lace, merino cashmere blends. I’ve spent 2 days figuring out how to warp my fist ever attempt and finally I got it at about 10pm tonight. Wincing as my back and neck are in bits. But realising that this scarf will be worth it giving all the fancy smancy yarn that it’ll eat up.

Haven't used a rigid heddle loom. Just the regular ones. Dressing the loom is a form of torture alright when you're getting the hang of it. Hope the scarf goes well!

The scarf actually turned into a long pattern pick up sample type thing as I began to experiment with making pick up string heddles cause the loom only came with a 12'5 and I’m waiting for a 10 to come in. So at least I’m familiar with different pattern techniques. I’m booked for a workshop coming up in feb.

It sounds like you’re getting on great.

Not sure where you are based? Keep an eye on the Guild website as they will post workshops throughout the year. They also have a list of people who give one to one workshops throughout the country. https://weavespindye.ie/learn/

Irish Fibre Crafters are based in Galway and have frequent workshops too. Nothing with a rigid heddle loom at the moment but they run workshops all the time.

I really enjoyed the class yesterday, learned loads & got going on a few different techniques. Something so very satisfying about weaving, just can’t describe it.

I did a class at the constant knitter a while ago too. I really enjoyed it but I already spin, knit and crochet so I decided against another crafty rabbit hole. I could see myself building a weaving stash to join all the other stashes.

I absolutely love the idea of it though, glad you are enjoying it!
