Anybody ran the new Belfast Marathon route? Just wondering if they have improved it significantly over other years. Thanks.

Not sure if the route is different to last years....but a lot depends on who is driving the lead car!

Hah, I heard there was a bit of a detour last year alright! Hopefully they’ll have the route better marked this year :)

From what I can tell (am not familiar with the city) the route looks reasonably interesting. Am thinking about giving it a go.

    Anyone signed up for this?

I got an email yesterday that due to the Coronavirus they are unable to provide tshirts to the finishers. Then I got an email today saying official merchandise is supplied by decathlon and we can buy official tshirts there! Talk about timing! It's a bit mad not getting a tshirt for doing a marathon and using the coronavirus is a lame excuse.

I got the same email from the organisers about canceling the Expo and t-shirts. I understand the expo cancelation, but not sure why they are canceling the t-shirts- maybe a Chinese supplier has gone out of business?

Anyway, if we get to run it at all at this rate I'll be happy. I understand the UK is very close to pulling the plug on all large sporting events. This week is my first week hitting 100km (in about three years). Hope it won't be for nothing!

Not sure if it's because the race t-shirts are made in Asia or because the pack collection has been cancelled and sending thousands of marathon and relay t-shirts by post would be too costly.

Far enough, the postage would be too expensive. So do what they do in Dublin, when you cross the finish line get your medal and tshirt.

If decathlon are fit to sell the tshirts then with 2 months to go to the event then they would be fit to print enough tshirts to give to the athletes

Yep, they could give them out at the finish so maybe there's a different reason for cancelling them. The t-shirts handed out to entrants are often separate from the event merchandise and might not be made by the same supplier anyway.

Most of us have more important things to be worrying about now, but got this email earlier today:

The 2020 Deep RiverRock Belfast City Marathon has been postponed and is now scheduled to take place on Sunday 20th September 2020. As such the 2020 Deep RiverRock Belfast City Half Marathon will now take place on Sunday 28th February 2021.

All participants who have registered for the 2020 Deep RiverRock Belfast City Marathon (Sunday 3rd May) and 2020 Deep RiverRock Belfast City Half Marathon (Sunday 20th September) will automatically be transferred to the rescheduled events on Sunday 20th September 2020 or Sunday 28th February 2021.

Any participant who does not wish to take part (or are unable to do so) in the rescheduled events on Sunday 20th September 2020 / Sunday 28th February 2021 will be able to defer their entry to the 2021 Deep RiverRock Belfast City Marathon (due to take place on Sunday 2nd May) or 2021 Deep RiverRock Belfast City Half Marathon (due to take place on Sunday 19th September) but must let us know before Wednesday 1st April 2020.

Participants who do not wish to take up one of the above options can transfer their entry to someone else for either the rescheduled dates or 2021 event dates. The deadline date for this process is Monday 1st June 2020.

In light of the rapid and unprecedented situation with coronavirus, the Belfast City Marathon Office will close at 4pm on Wednesday 18th March 2020. The management team will continue working from home and will endure to maintain appropriate standards of work and customer service.

For your first point of contact please email info@belfastcitymarathon.org where your enquiry will be answered or directed to the appropriate member of staff. Alternatively you can message us through our social media platforms on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

We ask for your patience during this challenging time. You are aware that the situation is ever changing and developing rapidly, so we will keep these recommendations under review and communicate any updates via our official website www.belfastcitymarathon.com and/or Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages.

    Your in sport
