Saw a 191ish polo today and the back indicators were tiny, very small and thin. Also alot of white indicators with orange bulbs around that don't do themselfs justice. With safety features being more and more the ideal how do the manufacturer s concile the anomoly.

That's funny, I was just about to post along the same lines. VW's seem to be the biggest culprits on the whole, with some indicators, both front and rear, no bigger than my little finger, and to top it all embedded in the middle of either the rear parking lights or the front DRL's making them very difficult to see. Seems that "styling" takes precedence over safety these days when it comes to lighting.

I agree. I’ve noticed particularly when the brake lights are on that you can barely see the indicator.

Try the brake lights on the back of the new Discovery.
Never mind that the back looks like someone with a lopsided face, the brake lights are ridiculously tiny....we are talking the size of a sticking plaster on an enormous jeep!!

a load of them like that, useless reverse lights too, a lot of automakers seem to be treating LED lighting as some sort of great excuse to minimise the need for correct lighting on cars.

Agreed, just because a light meets a minimum output level, does not mean that it's necessarily easy to see.

The physical size of the light has a big effect on it's visibility.

It wouldn't matter quite so much if they were separate from each other, in a line as they used to be once upon a time. The thing now seems to be to embed them into the centre of another light. I don't remember which VW it was I saw recently, but the indicator was about the size of a €2 coin embedded into the middle of the rear lights which were in the form of a circle. Saw a Ford today, not sure what model, but the front DRL LED's formed a complete oval shape, and the tiny indicator was stuck down in the bottom corner. Both very difficult to see.

With the way a lot of people use their indicators not seeing them might be a good thing. I ignore them and wait to see what the car does because you can't trust the other driver to do what the indicator is showing
