    Looking for advice guys.
    08 passat 1.9tdis. 270000klms
Just before xmas paid the tax for the year.
Only have the car a year. Got timing belt, water pump and new brake discs and pads.
It start getting a knocking noise that was getting louder so brought it to a mechanic and he said engine about to die. Could be crank shaft i think he said. Anyway it would cost too much to get fixed so i jumped back in to my 07vectra that was still in garden.
Decided to trade up so have a duster now.

Whats the best was to get most value from the passat. Im in D15 so toying with st margarets scrap yard. How nuch are they likely to give me? Ill claim the tax back with end of life cert. Or would somebody buy it off me and for how much approx.
    Thanks for any replies.
    Stephen

Unfortunately I think you’ll just get the standard scrap price for it and you’ll need to tow it there

She still drives but maybe 1 mile or 100 miles who knows?
Might pull the infotainment unit out and try sell parrot kit, spare wheel jack etc.
    Then scrap the rest.

Try cartakeback.com, they give you a quote online by using your reg number. I got 150 euro for 06 Avensis about a month ago. The company came to house to collect too as the flywheel was gone so the car was not mobile.
The scrap yards were offering less and I had to bring the car to them.

It would be a lot more effort but you could break it down yourself and sell different parts. Might take a while but would get more for the tyres if they were decent than the 100 euro you'd get for scrapping it. Also you'd need to learn about the different parts if your were not familiar.

Would you not put it on Donedeal for cheap and advetise as for repair or spares?
Someone might take it and throw an engine in it or break it up themselves.
    See what offers you get.

Alot of guys selling cars for parts on facebook in the car fan groups. There seems to be reasonable demand on all sorts of weird parts like seats, indicator stalks, abs pumps, looms, gear boxes etc. Might be an idea. Someone would put up an old "E39 BMW for breaking" - it would be there sitting on a courtyard in a sorry state and there would be a few questions from people asking for parts and prices.

For the money you would make selling the parts you'll have to deal with a lot of time wasters and people who don't know what rights they have buying from a private seller, it's none, so you can make a little extra for a lot of time, effort and hassle or just scrap the thing and move on.

I'm the same, I've an old 406 coupe that I want to get rid of, not driving at all. The only thing is there's a very outside chance somebody would like this car as a project so I haven't had the heart to scrap it yet. If someone would collect it I'd give it to them for free. Might start a thread on it but if anyone knows anyone that wants one send them my way! I'd say if I was in the UK I would have more success but very small demand for this in Ireland.

Stick it on done deal inthe damaged repairable section... I'd buy it off you myself if you were a bit nearer to me.

Not interested in doing that and having a carcass up on bricks outside the garden. But agree i would get more. Cheers. Stephen
