I’m trying to spec up a decent but affordable bike for someone getting into sportifs and weekend cycling. I’m better with expensive bikes and find the quality entry level stuff harder!

This looks pretty good for the price

Any opinions on this or other good contenders?

    Thanks for those.
Planet X is rival, others 105 - all even.
Planetx all carbon, others alu + carbon fork.
The planetx is 8.5, rose 8.3 and Scott 9.5 kg.

I know weight not everything, I had a Scott before great bike.
That rose does look the nicest to my eye. Will pass all on and see what they prefer.

That Rose is a good looking bike alright. If their customer service is good I'd say that's the decision made?

    What do you normally ride?

I've a PX London Road with Rival22 with disc brakes.

Apart from the gxp BB and the novatech freewheel dying it's been great these last 5 years.

It's a much more versatile bike and a more relaxed geometry. I do the club run and things like the W200 on it. Can put 32c on at 75 psi and it's so comfortable and doesn't hold me back.

I’m on a Canyon Ultimate, but trying to find a good bike for a friend And show him a few to choose from.
The London would be a great all rounder alright but he already has a commuter so he’s just looking for something light and sprightly to enjoy the Dublin mountains and the odd sportif

Is it possible to use cycle to work scheme?

Yes but depends on if your employer's engagement.

One issue with Rose for btw is that they will not handle split invoices.

The Pro SL was 1k EU, but is now a bit over that.

The way some companies do bike to work for values over the 1l is that they want a single invoice for their 1k and a separate invoice to you for the balance.

I bought a Rose on BTW but was lucky the co I was working with were happy to take my invoice and pay 1k against it and let me submit the balance to Rose against the same invoice.

Apart from that Rose cust service is very good.

Sorry, my question was to the OP to find out if cycle to work scheme is available for them. My employer, for example, only works with sellers which support cycle to work scheme and registered for Irish VAT so a choice of Irish bike shops as well as CRC, Halfords and Decathlon is available. I was going to recommend following bikes if it is not possible to get bike from Rose/Canyon/PlanetX etc using cycle to work:

    https://www.decathlon.ie/ie_en/ultra-105-rcr-af-road-bike-black-en-s303344.html
    https://www.halfords.ie/cycling/bikes/road-bikes/boardman-slr-8-9c-road-bike-red

Boardman bike costs 1200 euro now but I often saw it on sales for 1020 or less. I didn't ride any of these bikes but of them got great reviews on road.cc. With cycle to work they would cost up to half grand so it would be a no-brainer for me.

This bike from CRC looks good too: https://www.chainreactioncycles.com/ie/en/vitus-zenium-carbon-disc-road-bike-tiagra-2019/rp-prod172936

I owned a Vitus bike (different model) and it was a nice bike.
