Guinness is long gone, the last bottles of cider are just gone now, there might be a couple of cans left (as in one or two) [one it turns out, soon to be none] and then it's down to the Baileys...
Should get me through to the morning, but then what?

might go off it for (the rest of) January, we'll see

Sounds like you're looking for a bit of help/encouragement to give up?

Good luck if you give it a go!

Don’t open the Jack Daniels - it wont go off..... and I’d advise you to give it away altogether. Don’t buy any more alcohol. Give yourself time and space without alcohol. Ensure there is no more left in the house with you. Give it all away or throw it out if you have to. Tell yourself you don’t need it. Write it down. The first step going cold turkey is the hardest and you’ll miss it the most. But be strong.

Find an alternative task to busy yourself - something that makes you feel good and has a positive impact on your wellbeing. Could be as simple as walking the dog, or cooking recipes from scratch. Make a routine of it. Don’t replace drinking with smoking or doing something harder - these habits will do you no good in the short term or the long term, they’ll just feed back into a negative loop.

When you feel yourself slipping, stand upright and essentially have a word with yourself. Think it through for a few minutes - ask yourself why now? What has triggered the urge to drink - stress, boredom, etc.

Don’t be afraid to seek help from others - it’s not a failing on your part, it’s not weak to do so. In fact it takes a great deal of mental strength to show that we are vulnerable.

Best of luck Op. As my parents say, make this day the start of the rest of your life.
