Painting interior of garage block wall

I'm looking to finally paint the inside of my garage to freshen it up a bit. It is a simple block built structure with no finish on the inside.

I'm not looking for spectacular results but it has to be worth the effort!

I was thinking of a couple of coats of masonry paint, thinning the first coat.

    Any tips or advice?

I've to do the same myself soon so I'll be watching with interest!
the amount of dust in the garage is crazy from the walls.
Its going to soak up paint.
I wonder would of a coat of watered down PVA seal it for painting?

Get any emulsion paint you want, add some polybond to the first coat and then paint the rest as normal.

    Polybond FTW!!!

Many decades ago, I was helping out on a job. Exactly that; Tasked to paint the inside of a block built garage. Boss handed me a tin of white emulsion. A big brush. Told me to have at it.

I slathered this paint over a few blocks worth? " SssssUck!!! " I'm like; " What trickery is this?! I Swear I just painted that square yard?! Nothing!

Thankfully, by the time I was practically chucking gallon pots at this wall, only to watch it 'evaporate'? My cousin ~ a pro' ~ turned up. Took one look and said; " Have ye slapped a coat of Poly on that wall? "

Minutes later? I could have painted the Mona Lisa on it!

    Never forgotten that :)

I'm in the same boat, heard that you can seal it with PVA first, then paint over with a finish of your choice. I have a floor and walls. My boss just sealed his floor with PVA, kind of clear finish.

I've found numerous paints in numerous places, shops, online, etc, but if I can afford it I'm going to try and get SikaFloor 264. I've seen it alot through works and the pros are using it for plant rooms, pharma, etc. Saucy enough though €€€

I have read a lot of conflicting advice online about using PVA on the block walls, with some people stating that the paint will only bond to the PVA and if any moisture comes through the walls (they are not sealed externally on all sides) that the PVA may come free from the walls.

In the end, we just went with masonary paint and diluted the first coat down by about 15% with water. It went on ok - flew onto the few blocks that had been previously painted but was a bit more work on the bare blocks and needed a brush for the joints etc. Will hopefully get another coat done over the weekend and hopefully that is a bit easier going. We are only doing one wall at a time as we haven't room to clear everything out while we're working.

We have already painted the floor, which was a concrete pour. It was very dusty so we painted that with PVA first and then Ronseal floor paint with good results. Garage is used to park motorbikes, bicycles, lawnmower etc so not bothered about it looking A1.

In my last garage I got a can of industrial floor paint out of work for free.
The **** took 4/5 days to dry, must have been gone off or something.
It STANK the house house out as they were connected via a door.
Never again :D , the concrete floor in that garage was flaking like crazy even after the paint.ended up buy 5/6 cheap rugs from Ikea and carpeting it.
Lucilky the new garage is standalone and the floor is in good shape.
