Old itunes account

    Hi all,
    I have recently dug my old PC out of the attic. It hasnt been powered up since 2009 so its running a really old version of itunes.
    It has about 6,500 songs in an itunes account and I was wondering what would be the best way to convert them to mp3 and transfer them to an external hard drive?
    I dont use Apple products anymore so keeping them on itunes doesnt work for me.
