2 months pay delay

    Hi guys,

I'm being paid fortnight arrears, but the company is about to change it and is going to be monthly, so far so good. The problem is that I've been told I'm going to be paid those 2 weeks I worked in Dec/19 only at the end of January, when it should be paid on January 10th, and the whole month of January only at the end of February.

So there's a huge gap without pay. I'm wondering if it's legal or the company is trying to get any kind of advantage on me. Once I have no knowledge in this area, could you help me with this, please?

Was this just dropped on you?

Normally when companies try to save a few quid by doing less payroll they give at least 6 months notice and schedule it in so it doesnt have a detrimental effect on the staff.

There is no advantage to the employer only less resources on the the payroll.

Yeah, it was just dropped. The only notice they gave us in December, was that we would be paid monthly, but nothing like this. And I don't know whether we can refuse it or not if the company can really do it to us, which is not fair.

Not nice timing at all. But totally legal. It's not a 2 month delay, though, its only one month.

Usually when companies do monthly payroll, they pay you at the end of January for January. I'd go and double-check with them that this isn't what's happening.

If they really are asking you to a month-in-hand (ie paid for Jan at the end of Feb), I'd assume that the company is in trouble and start job-hunting.

    This.

I’ve never heard of a company paying for January at the end of February. That’s madness.

2 weeks delay between end of month and pay is quite normal but a full month in "arrears" is not common. As above, if this is a new change it may be cash flow related and I'd get my job hunting hat on.

    Is this a small company?

    Have sales been slow recently?

It's possible you have a psychotic or utterly incompetent payroll person, but I think this is a serious red flag the company might have financial problems and they're stalling because they have no money for wages.

Have you tried telling your manager you can't wait that long as you have bills to pay?

    Sounds very iffy.

Why are these iffy threads always initiated by new regs ?
