Old Sky+ Box no longer picking up satellite signal

    Hi,

I previously had Sky TV Subscription but cancelled it a couple of years ago and use Netflix & Now TV for most of my TV Needs.

My wife still uses the Sky+ Box to watch the Freeview Channels from time to time (BBC & ITV). In recent days the box is no longer displaying any channels and just shows message on screen that Channel is not picking up a Satellite Signal.

Does this mean my box/dish are done and will no longer provide me any freeview channels or is there a way to restore them?

    Thanks

Could be faulty box, LNB, cable and/or misaligned dish. As a first step can you get your hands on/borrow another box to rule out the existing box. Basically a troubleshooting job to find the fault, maybe call in an installer to fix.

Perhaps also check the settings on the box that show signal strength information

If purchasing a replacement box and your only using it for non paid subscription then I recommend buying a sky DRX595 multiroom box,
There silent in operation because theres no HardDrive inside which is also more efficient because you can't record without subscription anyway,

I've got four sky DRX595 multiroom boxs connected to my dish aswell as the LAN and there still working fine today so it's not a continental issue which is sort of a relief.
I don't know why I have them connected to the LAN as it's no use without subscription but it was an option for me to do within my home setup so there connected anyway.

Not sure what viewing Card your using but for the best range of channels I use old uk subscription cards,
    Purchased here: http://sat-planet.ie/FREESAT-VIEWING-CARD
Get loads of music channels aswell as Dave, channel 4 more 4 etc.

Heres a multiroom box complete with the uk card on adverts

I'm having the exact same problem today.

Tried plugging in an Old Sky Plus HD box for a friend to get FTA channels and I receive a notification when it turns on stating no satellite signal.

I plugged in a cancelled sky q box and card into the same connections from the dish and I can see full signal strength but no FTA channels as a block on the box and also the box has to be returned to sky.

I've googled online for the last hour or more and tried everything I've come across.

Have Sky someone stopped this working on their boxes?

    Thanks for any help.

If the dish was setup for Sky Q a normal box wont work on it.

    There's my answer so.

Is there any modifications I can do to change it?

There are hybrid LNB available which supports both SkyQ and freeview

Rumour has it hybrid LNBs are getting scarce. If you only want to use the dish for normal FTA then it is a simple job to replace the LNB with a normal one if you have easy access to the dish.

Yes, only want the dish for FTA box, moving abroad shortly so don't want to get into another contract.

Dish is on a flat roof, easy access, I was looking at it today to see was there any damage to it.

Can you link me on a LNB I need if you don't mind.

See some that have 4 or 6 outputs and I'm a bit confused.

Hybrids have 6 outputs, normal ones are quads (4). Its a straight swap but take care not to move the dish itself.

Not getting scarce at all, it's only the Sky supplied smart hybrid that's been discontinued - from Sky at least. Maybe the current manufacturer will continue production if there is market demand?

These fixed/non-smart hybrids are available from most online stores - https://www.freetv.ie/sky-q-hybrid-lnb/
    Hybrids have 6 outputs,

Sky's new non-smart hybrid has only 4 outputs and a 6 output one is via special order - the latter I assume for use in a house with an existing multiswitch.
