query on claiming back emergency tax

    Hi,

I was doing a part time job since November. I didn't know about the whole tax stuff until I checked my first paycheck for the first working week, where I found out about emergency tax.

To solve it, I immediately created a revenue account, got my employer's tax license number, then registered my job on revenue. This process used me another 10 days, where I got another two paychecks in, still on emergency tax.

My latest paycheck shows tax basis as 'N'. I wasn't taxed on PAYE anymore, and only very little USC tax. So that should mean I'm off the hook.

So how do I claim back the taxes for previous 3 paychecks? There's quite a sum there...

Thanks. Any help would be great.

Did you complete the form 21 on the revenue site? That will assess your liabilities for 2019.

any emergency tax paid in 2020 will even out now that you are on cumulative tax for this current year.

For last year's emergency tax, make sure you do a review of your 2019 taxes so you can claim it back if you have overpaid. This should be available to do in another week or so on your My Revenue account.

I thought form21 was gone as part of PAYE modernisation?
