New SSD full - how did I manage that?

    Hi all,

I've a newly resurrected and flashed Mutant HD2400 running latest (or near latest) Openvix.

As part of the resurrection from near dead I installed a new 1TB SSD to replace an old 500GB HDD which had failed. Installation and initialisation went fine (very easy in fact), it recorded a test program correctly and I thought I set up time**** correctly also as I could rewind live TV but tonight I came home to a load of disk error messages related to failed timed recordings I had set and I'm unable to rewind live TV as it seems the SSD is now full!!

I tried initialising the SSD again but I'm not getting very far per the screen shot below. Any thoughts?

On the initialise screen did you try pressing ok or the red button?

Cheers Nigzcurran, pressing the red button (as I had done several times) did nothing but pressing "OK" one more time started the initialisation process again and now the SSD is re-formatted and empty.

I guess I must have done something which somehow set up permanent recording via timeshift or through some sort of series record?

I do find the timeshift settings and options very confusing and counter intuitive.

    I'll keep going!!

    Thanks again.

So the SSD initialised without hitch last night but on arrival home this evening and change of channel results in the following Timeshift error message. Any suggestions how to fix?

and to you, change settings to disabled, yes, ask user, no, yes. then do a hard reboot.

So tried that, see the screenshot below, but it didn't work I'm afraid.

I initialised the SSD again, same timeshift settings as above but I get the circle in the top right corner error when trying to rewind live tv.

Funny thing is program recording is working despite the display screen below being all bunched together you can just about see that a program called "Veganville" is being successfully recorded which I subsequently played once the recording had finished.

why have you changed the skin to blue HD and where did you get it?

I changed skin because a) it's more user friendly for the family and b) the channel numbers are the same as they used to be when I had that skin in the past e.g. Sky News is channel # 1202 whereas under other skins the channel numbers are all over the place i.e. Sky News is 1295.

The skin is an official OpenVix skin and I followed their instructions from the firsst video here - https://www.world-of-satellite.co.uk/YouTube-Video-Guides

Edit: Just switched skins to the "Default" skin and timeshift now works.

    Bizarre!!

The VIX image is brand new so its dodgy to use old skins, I tried a few while I was helping you on other thread and I settled on that VIXblue. Lets face it we dont watch a lot of channels so all we need do is put all channels we watch in a bouquet called Favourites ... sorted. I use a very simple numbering system ie 1, 2, 3 . That VIX image skin is ace and I use quite a few.

Here are a few pics of what I have done for those who just want to watch tv.

6307 shows bouquets and note one at top, press ok and you get 6299. 6302 is when you press epg, 6301 is after you press ok twice. 6300 is an example when watching itv you want to go to say BBC2 you just press button 2 on remote. At the moment I have bbc1 on button one. I have more pics but you can only upload 5 per post.

If you mess too much you will knacker box and have you done a backup?

I don't know how to tell what skins are new and which are old. I'm surprised Vix don't update one of the skins they promote when they update the image or at least removing instructions on installing it once it's no longer compatible.

My lot do watch a ton of bizarre channels. I do have a favourites bouquet which suits me but if I included all the channels (Dave, Food Network, Blaze etc) which the rest of the family use it would be almost as long as the full list of channels anyway :o

BTW, is there a way / plugin to blend Saorview and FTA channels into a single 7 day EPG? I used to have that functionality but can't figure out how to recreate it.

I only have the default numbering. Is there a setting for implementing a bespoke numbering system?

No but it's on the to-do list now!!

Did you look at any of the images I posted!! When you change an image skin it alters how the OS behaves so I cant give you easy to follow instructions. In the previous thread I gave a long instruction on how to fix bouquets but I did say use the vixblue skin and that is included with the VIX image so you know it is compatible. Those plugins are years old and Enigma2 is a steep learning curve. Skins are done by third parties and have no connection to the image teams, ie skins like sky.The idea is you get it all set up initially with everything that works , do a backupand then move on to try a new skin BUT skins cause trouble so when you get the blue or green screen of death you need to know how to access box and delete the faulty skin etc etc. And you need 2 boxes!¬! Downloading skins via plugins is also a no no, they are best loaded either by FTP or as an IPK file.

Do a screemshot of your channels, and have you got dreambox edit.

"...and have you done a backup?

No but it's on the to-do list now!!"

FOR GAWDS SAKE PEOPLE BACKUP BACKUP BACKUP

It only takes 10 seconds to do a settings backup, under 5 mins for a full system backup. It will save you hours of swearing if/when you ever manage to mess up the box.

Didn't appreciate that, had assumed skins were just decorative!!

Can i ask, should the backup be done to the installed HDD/SSD or to an external flash?

    internal HDD should suffice
