New motor advice

My mother is looking to upgrade her Suzuki Vitara 16 diesel and looking to change for a 191 or 192 car.

she wants something similar due to the ride height and easy to get in and out but im unsure if she should go for another diesel for the next 2 to 3 years or go petrol

She travels a 50km return trip to work and then may drive around town at weekends

Budget would be low 20s but that all depends on trade in value on the Suzuki

I was thinking of going for a small petrol, suzuki dont do diesel anymore so could go with a petrol version. I like the new VW T-Cross myself and would be a nice car but thats top of the budget.

    Any other suggestions?

T-Roc is out longer so you might see some used ones coming into dealers as opposed to demos and preregs

Skoda Kamiq is just out too. Might be worth pricing one.

It's not going to match a diesel for fuel economy over long distances but when you consider the overall price difference between the petrol and diesel version of each then it might work out cheaper in the petrol given your mother's mileage. Worth doing some maths.

    They are nice motors
how economical would those small petrol engines be?

Should get about 790Km per tank in the manual gearbox. My negative for the car is I found the boot small when I went for a test drive.

Citroen C4 Aircross or C3 Aircross are both cool cars. Fiat 500x is a funky car. Mazda CX-3 if she can find a petrol one is a lovely car.

    or a Hyundai like this,

will have to do a good few test drives in the next few weeks so. Kona is a no go anyway, thinks its to plastic and i can see where she is coming from. way to much platic bumper showing.
The VAG group are looking best. Not sure if citroen would be in the running but ill bring her to all garages

Yes, a Qashqai would be in between those two size wise.

I have exactly same car, average fuel consumption is:
    1. Town - 6.5 l/100km, varies a bit depending on traffic
    2. N/R roads - 5
    3. Motorway on 120 km/h - 6.5

Tank is small though, only 40 liters, so i'm getting about 600+ km from it driving in the mixed mode.

thanks for that. My main concern was if there would be a hugh difference in fuel economy. Its not looking too bad. Hybrid would suit her but they are a bit too pricey.

I think i will line up a few petrol options for her to test drive.

The new Nissan Juke? They start from €21thosand and have a 1litre 117bhp engine in them.
Much nicer looking than the last one.

Only issue I saw with the Juke when I was looking at cars last year, is I found the boot opening to be a little high of the ground and our dog would struggle to jump in, or wife struggle to lift heavier items into it compared to some of the others. Otherwise great car.

noted, the mother has a big lab but not a contender if he will struggle to get in

The new Juke is available with one petrol engine, no diesel option.

A Labrador would get into the boot of a Juke no problem. Id say he was talking about the older Juke anyway. Its one of the newest in its class be silly not to at least check it out and test drive it.

The new Renault Captur is due out soon as well.

so after all the options i gave her, she was quite happy to go with another Vitara, a petrol one. She likes the size and boot is perfect for the dog. She collected the new one over the weekend.
    appreciate the help

What about the Toyota CHR. You might need to drop down the years but plenty of them bought on PCP as run arounds and now in for renewal as new model is out. Hybrid engine so perfect for run around.....just an idea
