The 8th international swan census takes place this weekend - aimed at Whooper and Bewicks' Swans. if anyone spots any of either species towards the end of this week or start of next week can you let me know how many, where and when?

2 pairs of swans on Drumgilra Lough seen from the CarrickOnShannon road. I can't see the colour of bills though.

Openyoureyes: Have been keeping an eye on a flock of whopper swans on a lake near me. Counted 14 in Nov but checked them them this morning and am getting 18! They are noisy divils but love them to bits. Can pm you the details of the lake if you wish. You might already have it!

11 in Wexford too, but haven't come across any others yet... (though I do have a billion emails/records to sort through...). To be honest, 12 is more than I was expecting before this winter began! You can imagine my delight in finding one on my home patch on the census weekend too!!

Hi Sundew, that would be great! Could you email me at bburke 'at' birdwatchireland.ie please? It's easier for me if I have all records in one place! :)

I can confirm a "robust" population of Whoopers in and around the Turlough areas of South Mayo and in Erris(NW Mayo) this week - a good number of juveniles too:)
