Fridge Icing Up ??

Apologies if I should know the answer !!.

We have an integrated fridge freezer in our apartment and it's way too cold !. Was there when we bought/moved-in last year so no idea how old it is. Dial turned down as far as it will go...but some stuff (e.g. lettuce) almost freezes in the fridge. The freezer is also ices over way more than usual.

It's beside the built-in double oven...but that's only used every 3 days or so...so I don't think the heat from it is causing the problem. We have a cheap analogue temp gauge in the fridge and it's hovering around 0.

Does this sound like a repairable item ??...or might it be time ??.

    Thanks,
    K

Often, with integrated fridge freezers, the door maybe poorly fitted to the external units keeeping it slightly ajar to allow more moisture in which then freezes into ice. Look at adjusting it.

have you tried twisting the dial the other way to see if that makes any difference.

I'll check the door seals...and also see what happens if I try reverse logic on the temp dial !.

    Thanks,

You know that 5 is the coldest and 0 the "hottest", and not Degrees?

Yes - fridge control set to min above 0 - "hottest" setting. We have a fridge thermometer - standalone little dial - and it's at zero degrees.

Surely the fridge temp should be 3 plus???

you didn't mention whether it is frost free or conventional? assuming its conventional you must have a build up of ice if it is running at 0 degrees. if it is defrosting occasionally I would presume faulty stat, otherwise door not sealing properly which should give snowy ice and worst scenario it has a refrigerant leak . this can show up as a lump of ice forming on the evaporator or only freezing partially down the back(evap)

I had this nightmare on my last fridge freezer forever freezing up chipping out ice. of course was not frost free. When i changed to frost free OH MY GOD night and day. I had been cleaning the door seals ...replacing door seals it just wouldnt stop.
Next time make sure you get Frost Free would be my advice
