    Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone has experience insuring their gear? Looking around, most companies focus on pro photographers and "gadget" insurers won't touch anything over a grand.

I'm looking mainly to insure against theft especially when travelling throughout year.

    Cheers!

If you have house contents insurance, you can usually add them as "named items" or similar.

This always excludes anything being used for business - hence the pro photographers insurance you mention.

I got cover through Balfey1972 who worked for an insurance company. He's not around the photo forum lately but is still active on boards and might be able to give you a steer.

I claimed on my 24/70 f2.8 which was basically worn out but the repairers quoted as accidental damage. It was covered under my contents insurance. Almost covered the cost to move up to the later VR lens.

Now that I am out of the country I have got a specific policy for the gear I have with me.

Thanks lads. I got it sorted with the home insurance. Painless to add it on! All they wanted was the price and serial numbers.
