ok but if buyer has bought it, someone mentioned having to go to main dealer and solicitor to sign forms to get another

That’s only if the owner can’t be found. If a seller is suggesting this, then they’re not the owner on the book.

    Plenty vans out there.

hi colm, the seller in the trade and not in his name and never got logbook from the owner as he could not find it so he says

The owner should be applying for a duplicate.

No credible dealer should be selling a van without paperwork.

So the trader is shifting the risk and hassle on to you. Never a good idea to buy a vehicle that doesn't have paper work with it. Could be stolen for all you know. Let the trader get onto the previous owner to get a replacement or move on to the many other vans out there for sale.

As said above plenty other vans out there, if the dealer is that lazy and unprofessional that they can’t apply for a new logbook then I’d walk away just to prove a point
