Sludge breakdown

Can anyone recommend a chemical to breakdown a layer of sludge in my septic tank, the vacuum can't lift it and because if the depth I can't "cut" it up with a power washer.

It's a 3 chamber concrete tank 4m deep due to site layout. Sludge is blocking inlet and outlet to the centre tank

    Thanks

If the tank has a crust as thick as what you describe it needs to be emptied. No point going at it with a regular slurry tanker, it's a specialist contractor with a constant vacuum tanker you need. They might have a rig which will have a boom arm and hose that can break that crust. Be very careful though as there will be gas trapped under that crust.

I got a road compressor and put the lance down into it and left it running for a while . The contractor that arrived to empty it was not able to suck it out but had no bother when he came back the second time . He said some tanks he came across needed a mini digger to break the crust . I had not emptied the tank for 16 years and the only reason I emptied it was to comply with the new regulations . If you have an inspection the first thing they will look for is a Cert from a registered contractor to say he has desludged the tank in the previous I think five years .

It might be worth trying Sulphate of Iron, which can be bought in c. 25 kg bags from your local co-op, or similar company.
    It is not that expensive.
Mix a jug full of it with water and then pour over the sludge. You can repeat this a number of times if need be.
(I am serious with what I am going to say next: Wear a mask or cover your mouth some other way because it will turn your teeth yellow if it comes in contact with them).
I use it occasionally in my own septic tank.
I would like to know how you get on.
