How to get mental health support for someone who doesn't know they are ill?

Hi, sorry if this is not an appropriate question for this forum.

I know someone who is possibly suffering from Paranoid schizophrenia based on the symptoms they are exhibiting. The person in question is unaware of how sick they are and they have no family who could have them sectioned (I believe you need two immediate relatives to do so but I'm not sure).

Is there anyone who I can contact that would call around to assess them and give them the help they need? I have serious concerns about the likelihood of self harm or harming others.

    Thank you.

If you know who their GP is, that's one option. Another option is the Gardai if you feel they're a risk to themselves or others.

See Mental Health Commission website or Citizens Information website on Involuntary Admissions for more information.

Local public health nurse could also visit.

Just wondering how you are qualified to diagnose schizophrenia? Are you a doctor?

I didn't diagnose. I said possibly based on the symptoms.

A doctor could diagnose hence why I asked the question of how to get help for them.

You don't need to be a family member. If you go to a GP, you can make the application, the doctor must examine the person (within 24 hours), and if they think the person is suffering from a disorder, they make a recommendation that the person be involuntarily admitted.
