Clear tape to cover paint cracks?

    Hi,

I'm picking up my first classic tomorrow. I was planning to put it in the underground car park in my place, but it looks like it may take a week or two to get the remote keyfob to open the gate (I don't bother parking there with the daily).

There is a small crack in the paint in the roof gutter and a few chips off the paint around the sunroof, so am worried it may rust while out in the rain (car currently lives under a carport).

Until I decide on a more permanent solution, is there any clear tape I can get to protect these areas, but is not so sticky as to pull the paint off when removed after a few weeks. Something as sticky as post it note for example?

    Thanks!

WD-40 Specialist Long-Term Corrosion Inhibitor protects and lubricates metal parts, blocking rust and corrosion for up to one year outdoors and two years indoors. It might do until you get it indoors. I have used grease to prevent rust short term as well.

Thanks! I might try that. Any idea where to get it on the northside of Dublin, halfords don't seem to have it.

WD-40 Specialist High Performance White Lithium Grease 250ml, Halfords have that listed in stock. Might do.

If it was me I'd sand that back a bit then treat it with a rust converter, then touch up paint.

There is a few small spots around the sunroof but very early. And it will need a rear arch at some point. But yes it's the 5th one I looked at and by far the best. Got it checked by an MB classic guy on a lift and he was very happy with it!

If you are getting rust up there, I would strongly suspect that the rest of the car is rotting from the inside out. What type of car is it?

In that case, I guarantee that the car is absolutely eaten from the inside out.
My brother has a similar vintage SL or similar. Looked nice but the rust was well hidden by the previous "restoration".

Maybe pass on any information you have to the Op, might be of help to him.

Well, I admit to being no expert, but it was checked on a lift by a well know MB classic specialist. And carpets were removed for inspection too. Maybe you're right, but I hope not!!!

I put up more pics in the classic forum if you like to look.
