Came across the attached recently, in summary Des Morrison chair of the icmsa livestock committee. He starts by stating that dairy beef production is more robust to beef price volatility and has been shown to be more carbon efficient than other beef system’s. basically a farmer that joins the scheme they are lobbying for can only stock at 2019 levels to a max of 100, dairy farmer must use a 4/5 Star pbr bull, calves must be purchased at under 6 weeks. Tow €75 euro payments are available, first one once animal is weighted between 6 and 10 months and the second when the animal is slaughtered.

I assuming the government/eu picks up the €150 subsidy which will just be redistributed from existing funds - BDGS etc.

The dairy calf problem would be alleviated, the suckler cow would become a rear breed and allows further dairy expansion.....a win win for the dairy industry, Larry et al and current suckler farmers would continue to be busy fools rearing calves.

    Where do I sign up

€150 subsidy fr beef calves, it'd be grand if beef farmers behaved and didn't give €200 more for calves because of it

I have to say I agree with that.

Hard enough to get decent calves at decent money in my experience though mind you.
