It’s all relative, but I’ve seen main dealer invoices for routine servicing and they’re staggeringly expensive. Most premium brands have expensive servicing though.

That garage is in business a good few years now so they must be selling enough cars all the same. Their prices are on the expensive side compared to some other non franchised garages. Its a good few years since I went into them but back then they were selling their cars with third party Mapfree warranties which didn't impress me considering the strong money they were looking for their cars. Not sure if they are offering their own warranties these days though.

thanks for that it's just I have been buying my cars over the yrs from main dealers all over the country and when you return to trade in the have a different attitude and **** value for my car .they are selling them with warranties but if you want a longer one it's about 400 euros I have never heard of a third party map free warranty. I have heard some stories about clocked cars ad stuff so hence why I am on here .I don't want to end up with problems .

The BMW used car warranty from their main dealers is probably the best out there. You will pay for it though.

I almost bought a car from AutoXpress two years ago but went for something else in the end from a different dealer.

Agree with what another poster says in that their prices can often be a little strong. However, they usually have a nice selection in stock and I found them pleasant and professional to deal with. I would go back to them in the future if they had something I was interested in.

To be honest most dealers have that attitude, they look for the sun, moon and stars for their cars when your buying but give you next to nothing for them when you return to trade them in.

A third part warranty from the likes of Mapfree is more like an insurance policy against mechanical failure. These warranties can have loads of terms and conditions, exemptions and stipulations so be very careful. Third party warranties mean you are dealing with another company who provides the warranty rather than the dealer you bought the car from which is what I don't like. In my opinion this gives the dealer a get out of jail card of telling you not his problem and go deal with the warranty company if there is a problem with the car.

By law the responsibility of warranty on a used car sale is on the dealer selling it and they can’t fob you off to a third party. There’s no specific minimum warranty length in Irish law for used cars rather the length of warranty implied depends on the age, mileage, condition etc of the car at time of sale.

Why would a dealer sell you a third party warranty if they had a legal obligation to honor a warranty? Are you confusing warranty with the Sale of Goods Act? Warranty is in addition to the Sale of Goods Act.

I’ve worked in sales, parts and more recently in another part of motor trade for the last 15 years including at management level so I know what I’m talking about. Dealers that pass off the responsibility of warranty to another company mostly aren’t aware that they still have a legal obligation when it comes to warranty on a vehicle.

The warranty is in addition to your statutory rights.

A while back 7 or 8 years same name may have been different operations.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,522 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

    That was probably Auto Xchange.

They had branches in Limerick and Naas too. Scumbags with even scummier finance houses.
