Would anyone have any recommendations for somewhere not hugely expensive, 3 star or premier inn equivalent in a good location in Vienna for a couple.

    Thanks!

I stayed in the Novotel near to the main train station last Feb

It was ok, except on check in, was requested a €400 damage deposit, which i had never been asked for before

I queried it as i was with my partner and have stayed at plenty of Accor hotels before without this being requested and without any issues elsewhere

    Ibis is next door

    Good location for getting around

    Re-posting from this recent thread:
Years ago (like about 25!) I stayed in a guesthouse in Vienna for NY on two occasions, the same one both times, and it was really cheap, really central and really friendly. I didn't suggest this above as I thought that Airbnb would have long since wiped out that kind of option, but a quick bit of googling suggests that the market is still alive and well, and comes in well under your budget - about 40-50€ per night. Google "gästezimmer wien" and take it from there.
My two stays there (as a couple) still rate amongst the "highest starred" accommodation I've enjoyed anywhere.

Just back last week, Stayed in Hotel fabrik.
It's a bit outside the city but worked out well, free breakfast too, which included eggs of any kind, and cold meats, fruit and cereal.
Also a shop and burger king less than 30 steps away.

The hotel is about a 300m walk from the U4 Ubahn, the ubahn works well and is always on time and it'll bring you to all the spots you want to see in and around the city centre.
Definitely get a pass for the ubahn, it allows you on all the trams, ubahns and city buses. Different passes for the amount of days you need. We used it multiple times daily, activate it the first time and keep it in the wallet after that unless asked.

Grand for a couple. About 50e a night iirc, and you get a nice kitchen, living room, and the toilet and the shower are in separate rooms, which can be convenient.. Close to shops and a five-minute walk to the excellent transport system.

I stayed back in 2005 at NH hotel just behind the Belvedere palace.
Good location, with tram and train stops round the corner.
