Looking for mobile phone camera comparison site

    Hi all,

Hopefully someone can help me I'm trying to compare cameras on mobile phones. Trying to buy something equivalent to or better than the camera on a Samsung note 4.

I've no issue with buying a phone 3 or 4 years old once the camera is good. My other half didn't mind the aging interface on the note and is even considering buying another one as the camera is so good

I think it's possible to come up a bit in years and get a refurbished phone with just as good a camera

But I can't seem to find a site that allows me to compare cameras. I've been on kimovil and seen phones with the same camera type but not equivalent, if that makes sense

Can anyone advise how I'd go about it? Or if there's a site I could use?

    Cheers

The Note 4 has a dxomark score of 83 so pick something with an equivalent score or higher. :)

Bear in mind it's been mentioned on other threads too that dxo is not impartial. They favour paying manufacturers.

    Didn't realise that thanks

Also when on a phone tick desktop site in your browser. Now I can see the scores *facepalm*

If you want to read reviews of mobile phones that focus (sorry!) almost exclusively on the camera, lookup Adrian Weckler in the Indo.

would not be promoting Adrian Weckler as a phone camera expect

dxomark is not impartial as I pointed out on another thread and has gone through periods where certain manufacturers have certainly being paying a lot for their services and whereas their cameras have not acutally been the best in real-world usage. It's also very much geared towards the flagship 600 euro + phones and doesn't really cover anything under 400 euro or so ever.

still - a phone up the top of the list will take a good photo

if you have a particular phone in mind check a photo gallery review where you can see samples of pictures taken

    e.g. https://www.gsmarena.com/xiaomi_redmi_note_7_pro-review-1945p5.php

and youtube camera reviews for the particular phone

the pixel 3a which you may be able to get for cheap on vodafone (may or may not come back into stock here where you could get it with for 180 with a number port or 280 without)
has a better camera than the pixel 2

people bought them and there are new ones on adverts for sale - one there for 220 new - that's a good price
    https://www.adverts.ie/for-sale/q_pixel+3a/price_160/

it's a very good phone and as a bonus will get updates until mid 2022

pixel 2 is discontinued so you'd have to buy 2nd-hand

Cheers glasso I'll have a look

The pixel 2 is on eglobal new (have had a long wait on stuff from them before but I'm not in a rush) and I can take a punt and order it China. Take a gamble on customs

I'll check out the 3a too!

    Thanks for all the advice

200 was my top spend but this isn't much more. That's why we were looking at just getting a refurbished note 4 again. Cheap option but this might steal it as it's new. Plus we'd a lot of issues with the note 4 we could be inheriting them in a refurbished unit

    Thanks again
