Silly question ref Providers and ABM

    Hi all,

I recently rescued a "dead" Mutant HD2400 4 tuner combo box with help from this forum (swoofer in particular) and now have a working box with a new 1TB SSD etc and the latest Version of OpenVix 5.3.013.

I have a few tweaks left to do to get it just how I want it like combining FreeSat and Saorview into a single 7 day EPG which I'll research and figure out but two things are bugging me which I hope someone here can help me out with.

    These are:-

    1. What could I be needing a USB drive permanently inserted into the box for? I know I needed one previously but now that I've gone through most of the set up process I can't figure out what it was used for. The only thing I can think of is that frequent EPG writing to the installed 500mb HDD was frowned upon when I originally got the box 4-5 years ago so it was best practice to use a USB Drive for that process. Does that make sense? (Didn't stop the 500mb HDD giving up the ghost but swapping it for a 1 TB SSD I got in the Black Friday sale was a quick 10 minute job.)

    2. When I ran ABM I only included FreeSat UK and Saorview as Providers and excluded Sky ROI, Sky UK and FreeView UK. This produced a nice set of Bouquets which included Sky News in the FreeSat UK - News and Sport Bouquet but when I log into OpenWebif -> BouquetEditor, click on Providers and choose Freesat (oddly I get two "Freesat" providers, one named "Freesat" and one named "FREESAT" but the latter only has the Smithsonian channel) the list of channels listed for the Freesat provider does NOT include Sky News.

My question is how can ABM include Sky News in a Bouquet when it's not listed as a channel in the two providers selected within ABM's settings?

Hope that's not too Pedantic Pat a question but this Satellite set up lark has been very challenging (and rewarding) thus far but this is one head scratcher I haven't been able to resolve thus far!!

    1. A lot of people store picons on a USB drive. If you were using an internal HDD, it would avoid the need to spin up the HDD every time you switched channels.

    2. Did you maybe do a manual scan and stop it before it picked up Sky News? I don't think ABM needs a manual scan to include channels. They frequencies are hard coded.

If using an SSD then spin up time in no longer an issue.

    Thanks for the reply dubrov,

No, I did an auto scan and let it finish.

The odd thing is Sky News shows as a channel on the FreeSat provider on the box but doesn't show as a channel when listing FreeSat as a Provider in OpenWebif
