This isn't a bargain as such but turned out to be one for me and thought it might help.someone else. Checked our dryer with whirlpool, which I had checked a good while back and it wasn't recalled, and it is now on the recall list.

They offered a replacement which they'll fit and take the old one away. We bought this in 2015 so is great to be getting a new dryer to replace it.

You can check yours here https://safety.hotpoint.eu/controller?a=pr&country=UK&lang=en_GB

Thanks for the heads up, wasn't even aware that there was a recall in place since July 2019. Turns out our model is to be recalled.

A number of washing machines have also been recalled

Whirlpool themselves are still ok though? Both ours are Whirlpool with no green dots.

Yes, they recently bought indesit/hotpoint and issue is with that company stock

They bought into Indesit/Hotpoint at the wrong time and have ruined their own brands reputation in the process. Don’t worry about your Whirlpool washing machine or dryer

The weak points on Whirlpool machines are the drawer to solenoid valve rubber hose that splits and rust develops under the door and detergent drawers. DO NOT let detergent drip down alongside the front panel, and when removing clothes, make sure they are thoroughly spun, use a basket removing them and then dry the underneath of the door with a tea towel.

I registered mine right at the beginning. I am still waiting, I have had a good few messages saying 'any minute now' the latest is from 24 October-

    "Dear Customer,

We are writing to you regarding Whirlpool’s ongoing tumble dryer recall campaign. Firstly, we wanted to thank you for your time responding to this campaign, registering the details of your tumble dryer and selecting a replacement dryer. Nothing is more important to us than the safety of our customers and we are deeply sorry for any inconvenience that this process may have caused you.

Unfortunately, you have been provided with an inaccurate date for delivery of your new dryer and we are very sorry about this.

Your order has been received and is being processed. Our preferred delivery partner will contact you directly within the next 14 days to re-arrange a suitable date.

Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience that this may cause you and once again thank you for responding to this campaign.

What options do you get as a replacement? I only ask as the one I have is silver, so a white one wouldn't really go as the rest of the appliances are silver as well.

Can I ask, how are you managing without a dryer for this length of time?

I registered mine at the beginning also and finally got my replacement at the end of November. I opted for the upgrade so maybe that’s why I got mine before you. Mine was very old so I felt that paying the €85 for the upgraded model was a great bargain as it really needed replacing anyway.

I opted for an upgrade too, who wouldn't?? But still nothing.

As to living without a dryer.... not easy, but.....

iirc you are offered a condenser version in replacement, but, in effect, if your original one is old you have to be given a new model.

That is, of course WHEN, you get it....;)

I knew nothing about this. Our hotpoint dryer is on the recall list so hope to get a replacement soon. Thank you.

Forgot to check this when it was in the news, thanks OP, ours is affected. Bought in 2010, but stored til 2014. Be handy to get a new one.
"The recall will be rolled out across Ireland on August 5th"
    August 2019 or 2020???

I only brought my washing machine in October. It is being replaced next week as something else has gone wrong with it. Power City were a nightmare to deal with. I'd rather pay more elsewhere then ever deal with them again. Whirlpool have been helpful though.

Is this the official recall thread and if so is this still active?

We have been waiting since February for a response with our recalled machine, understandably since March 12th we have not heard anything but we are now handwashing as the machine was incredibly hot. 5 in the family...not really going to be too sustainable.

Was waiting about 5/6 days on a response on my recalled dryer. Decided to DM hotpoint ireland on twitter and was sorted in 20 minutes. Replacement being delivered Wednesday.

Interesting, our old tumble dryer that was inherited with the house comes up under this, filled in the form and messaged them on twitter, would be a nice bonus if it comes through although we use it very rarely.

wow...5/6 days very my three months. I was on the phone to them and they told me to log into a portal with my replacement options. They are offering an inferior model to the one we purchased. Any thoughts on how to proceed?

As I said I just sent a DM on to see if there was a way of speeding it up and got sorted quickly.
They offered me a replacement which is similar to the bog standard dryer I currently have. They also gave an option to upgrade to a better model for €136 or €110 cash refund instead. As my dryer was 6 years old all the options were a win for me.
Not sure how I'd respond if I was being offered an inferior model after a few months ownership.

They've offered a repair or the inferior model, that was it. Neither option is great, repairs of defective products havent had the greatest press in the past.

i want to say thank you for this, was getting nowhere with phone calls to the number they had listed on their letters, however after finding this thread and this post it was sorted in minutes using twitter to hotpoint_Ireland also. Thank you! (I had last heard anything from them back in March)
