Hi, I am just wondering if any of you would could give me an insight with regards to this matter. In 2011 I was caught in one of the ships for shoplifting with a value of less than a 100eu. I have never offended the law and would never ever want be in that situation again. I was given an Adult Caution and was told that if I re offend again the Gardai are going to raise that previous matter against me. My question now is this, "Do you think I have a shot at applying for an Irish Citizenship? Would the minister take that against me for offending the law of Ireland in 2011, I know it is coming to 2020 now and nevertheless I still did something wrong in the past. I hope I could get great answers from people in th community. I hope there are solicitors or Guards that can read this so they can shed a light on my case.

If they had any issue with you having an adult caution, and applying for citizenship, I'll laugh my head off.

Considering what they leave their own citizens away with. I would shun them if they had a problem with you, a one time 'offender' for a minor incident, and regret it.

CMod note: dartboardio, I have removed the misinformation from your post as it was incorrect and irrelevant. You should be more careful about posting things like that without double checking the veracity, tbh. I have also deleted the replies to it, so that the thread doesn’t get pulled off the OP’s question.

    Hi OP,

I wonder if you'd do better in the Legal Discussion forum (here https://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=633). The forum is used by people with a knowledge of, or interest in the law.

They are more likely to point you in the right direction.

    Best of luck.

Get the paper work and go through it to see if they ask about convictions and cautions my wild guess is that they won't ask about the caution and you'll be fine you could also look at the citizens information Web site.

Here’s the Irish citizenship application form.

    http://www.inis.gov.ie/en/INIS/form-CTZ3.pdf/Files/form-CTZ3.pdf

    First 16 pages are notes.
Page 26 is the relevant page for this query.
