One of the buddies is hoping to go to Torremolinos in May he is looking at two hotels both of which seem to have good reviews but are at different ends of the town. I have never been so I have no knowledge, anyone know of the Arcos de montemar or the costa del sol hotel torremolinos

thank you I'll pass that on , not sure why but the two hotels I mentioned seem to be in his head. Looking at Google the one you mentioned is very close to one of his ones . I presume its a nice enough area ?

I think you should look at the La Carihuela section of Torremolinos. Right between Torremolinos and Benalmadena.

    I have stayed at

    Pez espada

    Sol house

    Rui Nautilis

    All in this area

The Rui is probably the best of them

I loved watching the sun rise from the Plazamar.

Stayed in Bajondillo apartments a few years back. Great location and very reasonably priced

I've stayed in the Bajondillo a number of times. Fantastic location in terms of the town, beach, restaurants etc.. Building a bit 70s, but the price is usually great and the place is kept spotless.

I don't know what age the OP's friend is, but I would agree with the La Carihuela area if they are under 30 or so. The Bajondillo is great, but it's fairly quiet and the beautiful young things seem to go further along the coast for nighttime entertainment.

We stayed in the Sol Aloha Puerto which is now called the Sol House, the location is excellent with direct access to the beach and right beside Benelmadena marina and plenty of 'Irish' bars nearby too. The only bad point about the hotel was the pool - absolutely freezing and that was in June.
