    Hi,

I'm looking at buying a lightly damaged EV from copart in UK. Anyone got any experience?
    1. How long do you have to collect?
    2. Are there're any haulage companies that would collect in Sandy UK (43miles north of London) and deliver to Ireland?
    3. Is the vehicle export/import process straightforward?
    4. Can this be done post arrival in Ireland or is there anything that must be done before the car leaves the UK?

Might be a good idea to post in the EV forum. I know guys there were talking about getting their cars transported over in the past.

I've been looking into this and the only problem I can see is most of them don't come with the v5 logbook so you have to apply for the logbook and this takes up to 6 weeks but you need a UK address for this.
There is transport companies that will collect from most Copart facilities( I was quoted 350-400 euro to Dublin). You have a few days to collect it and then they start charging you storage fees and they charge a loading fee aswell, I have watched a few of the online auctions and some cars go quite cheap but with fees add another few hundred on top

Have a look at Flipping Cars I’ve used him several times to buy from BCA, think he does Copart as well.

But yeah as said above its not as straightforward anymore because usually when a car is in an accident the v5 is destroyed. Was fine before because you could get a cert to import the car instead of v5 but the DVLA aren’t issuing those certs anymore.

Do not import a car without the v5 as you can no longer get it from Swansea and you can't VRT it without it unless you're in the trade.

Surely a lightly damaged repairable comes with a V5?

On the transport I highly recommend Eirtrans.

It tends to stay with the insurance company.

You can apply for it after. Simple enough to do however they may insist on a structural report prior to providing it.

If you buy it and bring it back here privately you're screwed however.

And just demonstrate you have married a Welsh sheep, live and work there and pay utility bills.

    The nightmare continues.

Don't buy anything without a V5 unless you have a UK address you can use to apply for its replacement. Some stuff do come with V5s. Any of the transport companies are doing several weekly runs around the UK to all/any of the auction sites - have a look on DD.
There's a thread about importing from the UK here somewhere if you look.
