Airbag light in Hyundai i20 2016

Our car has a switch on the side of the glovebox to activate or deactivate the passenger airbag.

    We always keep ours on.

The light for airbag being on was always illuminated. There is a separate light for airbag off, but since we've never had the airbag off, it's never been illuminated.

For the past few days when we are in the car, the airbag on light comes on for a few seconds then goes out. Does anyone know why this would be?

The airbag is definitely on, as the switch is set to on. If the airbag was off, then the "off light" would be illuminated.

There are no warnings or messages coming up on the cluster.

See the first image which shows the light illuminated for a few seconds and the second picture where the light suddenly goes out.

On most cars the airbag light in your instrument cluster will turn on for about five seconds when you turn the key
The system checks the airbag components. If no problems are found the light should turn off. If there are any problems the light stays on. I would be surprised if hyundais are different. Check your manual. If the car is indicating an error get it checked.

What you have described in normal behavior for the passenger airbag indicator. It will only stay on for approx 4 seconds after the ignition is turned the ON position. Check your manual at "2-37" (available here: https://carmanuals2.com/d/92959)
